Marie's Vision
My vision is to get this book into the hands of thousands of people who are in situations, like a cancer diagnosis, caregiver role or the friend of someone who is in these situations and they would value examples and stories of how others navigated.
The book is divided into three sections. The first captures a flowing series of personal stories and experiences. The next section is a HOPE Companion Workbook - A Guided Reflection Companion for the reader and participants. The final section is A Unified Facilitator's Guide, as this book is as much as a personal read as it is as a teaching and circle book work.
I am very proud of all that is in this book and of those who were brave enough to share their stories. I also know that there is an audience who will greatly benefit from the contents of this book.

Hope is a Choice
A cancer diagnosis is never experienced by one person alone. It reaches spouses, partners, children, parents, caregivers, friends, and entire communities. It changes routines, relationships, priorities, and the way we understand both time and love.
When Marie Soprovich's husband, Doug, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, she entered a world no family ever expects to navigate. As a wife, caregiver, advocate, and companion, she discovered that hope is not denial. Hope is not certainty. Hope is a choice—one we make again and again, even in the midst of fear, grief, uncertainty, and profound love.In Hope Is a Choice, Marie weaves her own story together with the deeply personal experiences of patients, caregivers, survivors, and families whose lives have been forever changed by cancer. Their stories are raw, honest, and deeply human. Together, they reveal not only the heartbreak of serious illness, but also the extraordinary resilience, courage, compassion, and connection that can emerge when life is at its most fragile.
Whether you are living with cancer, caring for someone you love, grieving a loss, celebrating survivorship, or walking beside a friend through an uncertain season, this book was written with you in mind.
Inside these pages you will find:
- Honest stories that remind you that you are not alone.
- Gentle wisdom for navigating caregiving, grief, uncertainty, and healing.
- Meaningful reflections to help you process your own journey.
- Conversation starters for families, book clubs, caregivers, and support groups.
- Companion reflection exercises that encourage hope to become a daily practice.
Hope Is A Choice is an invitation to pause, breathe, reflect, and discover that even when life does not unfold as we imagined, we can still choose how we meet it. Remember, choosing hope may be the bravest thing we do.
